Play Leader (0-5 years) for ESL children

Empowered ESOL provides free English Language classes (ESOL/ English for Speakers of Other Languages) to parents in Leeds.

Our current classes take place at Swinnow Community Centre (LS13) on a Tuesday morning (11am - 12pm). We encourage parents to bring their children to class, and we are looking for someone who can play with and engage the children during lesson time. The community centre has a wide range of toys, craft resources, and games that you can use during this time. The parents will be learning in the same hall, and we don't mind interruptions. However, the play leader should be able to supervise the children and engage them in play/ games.

For many of the children that we welcome, English is not their first language. They are often between 18months - 4 years old but we welcome ages 0-5y.

We do not have any language requirements, but an understanding of other cultures and languages is really helpful.

We will provide all volunteers with bus tickets to/from the venue and hot drinks.

We are hoping to be able to provide further opportunities and hours later in the year.

This opportunity is perfect for anyone who is interested in teaching English as a Second Language and we hope that Teaching Assistant positions will also become available in the near future.
