Imagine being taken to a West Yorkshire Police Station where you feel confused, anxious and unsure of your rights. For many vulnerable adults this is a reality and, without your support, it can be overwhelming.
As a volunteer Appropriate Adult, you can be the person who makes sure that vulnerable adults are heard, understood and treated with dignity.
You don't need a legal background just empathy, reliability and the confidence to be there for someone during a difficult time.
Why this role matters:
Vulnerable adults may struggle to understand what's happening or to communicate effectively
Your presence helps ensure fair treatment and safeguards their rights
You provide reassurance in a highly stressful environment
What you'll do:
Attend at a West Yorkshire Police Custody Suite/Station when a vulnerable adult is detained or interviewed
Help the vulnerable adult to understand the processes in a clear and calm way
Ensure that police procedure are following appropriately and fairly
Support communication between the individual and professionals
What you'll bring:
Strong listening skills and patience
A calm, non-judgmental attitude
Reliability and integrity
The willingness to complete training and follow safeguarding guidance
What you'll gain:
