HR Officer
Purpose of the Role
This role ensures Radio West Suffolk is a safe, inclusive, supportive, and welcoming place for everyone. It combines safeguarding, wellbeing, youth outreach, accessibility, and volunteer recruitment into one central point of leadership. The role helps the station uphold high standards of care, representation, and professionalism while supporting volunteers throughout their journey with the station.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Work with the station’s safeguarding lead, ensuring all volunteers understand and follow safeguarding policies.
Maintain up‑to‑date safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and reporting processes.
Provide guidance and support to volunteers if safeguarding concerns arise.
Promote wellbeing across the station, ensuring volunteers feel supported, valued, and safe.
Signpost volunteers to appropriate support when needed.
Accessibility & Inclusion
Ensure the station is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to people from all backgrounds.
Promote diverse and representative participation across all roles and activities.
Support volunteers with reasonable adjustments and inclusive practices.
Schools & Youth Outreach
Develop and deliver education projects, workshops, and outreach activities with schools, colleges, and youth groups.
Coordinate work experience placements, ensuring they are structured, safe, and meaningful.
Promote opportunities for young people to get involved in broadcasting and media.
Recruitment & Volunteer Support
Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers.
Maintain clear role descriptions, expectations, and induction materials.
Ensure all volunteers receive appropriate training, including safeguarding and station procedures.
Support volunteers throughout their time at the station, helping resolve issues and encouraging development.
Maintain volunteer records, contact details, and training logs.
HR Administration & Compliance
Keep policies up to date
Ensure the station meets legal and regulatory requirements relating to volunteers.
Support the management team with HR‑related decision‑making.
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Skills & Qualities
Warm, approachable, and trustworthy — someone volunteers feel comfortable talking to.
Organised and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
Good communicator who can explain policies clearly and sensitively.
Committed to fairness, representation, and creating a positive volunteer culture.
Confident working with young people, schools, and community groups.
Experience (desirable, not essential)
Experience in HR, safeguarding, youth work, education, or volunteer management.
Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice (training can be provided).
Experience working in community organisations, charities, or volunteer‑led groups.
