Description
Do you want to help vulnerable and socially isolated people to live happier, healthier lives through participation in music? Would you like to expand your social circle, meet new people and make a difference?
Volunteer Role: To share your passion for music, build a relationship with and help support some of Musical Connections’ most isolated members via telephone and during their group sessions
What we're looking for:
- Friendly, polite and a good listener
- An enjoyment in speaking to a diverse range of people and helping others
- An interest in, knowledge of or willingness to learn about music, physical and mental health challenges, and older adults
- Good conversational skills with a clear speaking voice
- A patient, empathetic and non-judgemental attitude
- An ability to work independently whilst recognising when to seek advice or report concerns
- An enthusiasm and commitment to the charity’s ethos and work
- Use of own mobile or landline telephone
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Engage in regular conversation to establish, build and maintain friendships
- Support isolated members during sessions and playing musical instruments (no musical training needed)
- Increase social connections for those who really need it and reduce feelings of loneliness
- Provide transport for isolated members struggling to access our sessions
- Listen to and participate in music with other like-minded individuals
- Raise awareness within the community of the effect of music on isolated older adults
